Is That Our Club President?

Yes, Gelvic is still playing chess and Playing Well! Last night at Meijer, Gelvic won his 1st round game vs. Robert Amback (1913) and then won his 2nd round game vs. Expert Felix Valdes (2066). Gelvic then withdrew from the tourney. I guess he decided to take his newly won rating points and run! Any case, he had a fine performance.

I scored 2.5 with 2 wins and a draw in the under 1800 section, good enough for 1st place in the section and $20.00! I will post my games on my new blog soon.

Thanks Stephanie! I wish I had the energy to continue with the tournament. It's tough playing on and off in the tournaments. You don't have the mental stamina compared with playing on a regular basis plus playing against Robert Amback and against Felix Valdes is a tough ordeal. I'm hoping that my good performance on this tournament would inspire the kids to improve their games. I apologize for not having been able to go there at Cox's Creek Elementary School. I hope you understand. Please extend my apologies to the kids as well.

Thank you and congratulations to you Johnny on winning the top price. Both Steve Dillard and Robert Amback asked me if I wasn't going for the win and I said that I was drained after playing against those two tough players.

Gelvic, those 2 wins put you back above 1800 by netting you 36 rating points! Fine performance!!
