The old timers out there will remember this cake from the 2011 Veterans Tournament.
Fast forward six years and prepare for the 2017 Veteran Tournament dedicated to the memory of Andrew Preston, currently being planned by Stephanie Clayton and Larry Bell. While we await finalization of the details, I can tell you that the tournament has been scheduled to be played on 4 November at the Family Buffet restaurant in Elizabethtown. There will be many perks for veterans so keep checking this site for details.
A recent inquiry into Club activity will now be addressed.
Yes we are still playing on Tuesday nights at the Family Buffet. Remember that it is Summer, school is out and many folks are out of town on vacation, etc. Players stagger in, as their individual schedules permit, starting around 5PM EST. If no one is there by 7PM it probably means everyone had prior commitments; don't give up keep checking in until you catch us.

Kerry Fatula returns from self imposed exile!
The meeting of May second saw a resurgence of attendance; in addition to Kerry, Amy and Larry Bell, Stephanie Clayton, Bob Kilmer, Johnny Owens, Jerry Weldin, and a guest player did battle on the 64 squares.

Andrew Preston 12 April 1942 - 28 April 2017
by
Jerry
It is my sad duty to report the passing of Andrew Preston after a long battle with heart problems.
When his health permitted Andrew was a regular combatant at area chess events and loved to play regardless of the outcome.
Visitation is from 4-8pm at Barlow Funeral Home in Bardstown on Tuesday, May 2nd and 9 - 10:15 Wed 3 May. Funeral services will be held at 11am on Wednesday the 3rd at the Church of God located at 3903 Louisville Road in Bardstown with burial at the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery in Radcliff.

Has Anybody Seen This Man?
by
Jerry
At the February 21st Club meeting a primary topic of discussion was the where about of Kerry Fatula. Kerry is pictured above in front of Andrew Preston. Approach with caution Kerry may be armed with a chessboard and is an extremely dangerous opponent. If seen please leave a comment below.
In other conversation, it appears that leaving a comment as to whether a member will attend a meeting or not is too much of a bother and considered an inconvenience. Everything has to be tried at least once.
In light of above I will no longer post meetings ahead of time. Health permitting I will show up for all meetings and bring a chess book in case I am the only attendee.

Posting Comments And Articles
by
Jerry
Problems experienced by some in posting comments and articles on the site should be over! A little froggie, pictured above, has solved our problems to include paragraph formatting.
To leave a comment simply click on "comment" at the bottom of the post and choose your option. If you want to post an article; click on "comment" and then click on the red B for blogger at the top left of the screen which takes you to the sign in page. Now click on the pencil picture after Elizabethtown Chess Club to get the next screen to post. If unable to post, contact Ernie or Jerry so they can reissue an invite. Invites expire if you don't post something in a reasonable time frame. As far as I can tell once you have posted you won't need another invite ever.
To post games go to GameKnot.com and follow their instructions.

Valentine's Day Is Better With Chess
by
Jerry
The Family Buffet is featuring a sea food blow out for Valentine's Day. Treat your significant other to a sea food feast followed by a game of chess. After all if they are your valentine then you are theirs.
I will be there; leave a comment if you will be coming.
